The Most Crowded Faceless YouTube Niches (April 2026)

We analyzed current public YouTube data to find which faceless YouTube niches look most crowded right now, where large incumbents dominate, and where smaller channels appear least often.

If you are trying to avoid the most crowded faceless youtube niches, the current data points to two obvious traps: Business and AI News. Both have real demand, but they also show the weakest room for smaller channels in the current sample, which is exactly what makes a niche feel exciting from the outside and punishing once you actually start publishing.

This is the flip side of the opportunity work we are publishing on the EchoEtch blog. A niche can be hot and still be a bad first bet if most of the attention is already being captured by giants.

Crowding Snapshot

Hardest first bets

  • Most crowded niche right now: Business
  • Second-most crowded niche right now: AI News
  • Most misleading “looks easy” niche: Gaming Lore
  • Crowded but still workable with a real edge: True Crime
  • Best rule of thumb: high demand is not enough if smaller channels barely appear
  • Best alternative read: look for niches with both demand and accessibility, not just buzz

Data freshness: This ranking uses a live public-data pull completed on April 6, 2026, based on recent public YouTube videos published since October 1, 2025.

What “Crowded” Actually Means Here

Verdict: A crowded niche is not just popular. It is popular and already heavily captured.

For this piece, I treated a niche as crowded when three things showed up together:

  • strong current views
  • weak appearance from channels under 100,000 subscribers
  • a high median channel size in the sample

That is the combination that turns a niche into a trap for new creators. On paper it looks promising because the audience is there. In practice the current winners are often too entrenched for a new faceless channel to break through easily.

1. Business

Verdict: The clearest crowding signal in the whole dataset.

Business looked great if you only cared about raw demand. It looked much worse once accessibility was factored in.

What stood out:

  • Median views per day were 5,001.0.
  • Only 10% of sampled videos came from channels under 100,000 subscribers.
  • The median sampled channel size was about 2.62 million subscribers.

That is the kind of profile that makes a niche feel easier than it is. A lot of the attention is still being captured by large incumbents like Think School and other established case-study channels with trust, packaging skill, and existing distribution.

So yes, business content is working. But for a new faceless creator, it is one of the most crowded places to start right now.

2. AI News

Verdict: Huge demand, almost no evidence of small-channel room.

AI News was the most obvious “everyone wants in” niche in the sample.

What stood out:

  • Median views per day were 4,947.8.
  • Small-channel share was 0% in the sample.
  • The median sampled channel size was about 925,000 subscribers.

That is brutal. It means the current energy in the niche is real, but the visible winners are overwhelmingly established voices, major tech commentators, and larger media channels. Channels like The Diary Of A CEO, Kurzgesagt, and Matt Wolfe are pulling the oxygen out of the room.

AI News is not impossible. It is just one of the worst “I’ll start here because it’s hot” decisions a new faceless creator can make.

3. Gaming Lore

Verdict: More crowded than creators usually assume.

Gaming lore still works. The problem is that a lot of creators mistake “works” for “wide open.”

What stood out:

  • Median views per day were 2,827.8.
  • Only 29% of sampled videos came from channels under 100,000 subscribers.
  • The median sampled channel size was about 338,000 subscribers.

That is not dead-space crowding like AI News, but it is enough to matter. The niche is highly searchable, fans binge it, and lore content has clear replay value. But channels that already have trust inside a specific franchise ecosystem still hold a major edge. Gaming Harry is a good example of what strong execution looks like here.

If you already live inside one franchise world, gaming lore can still work. If you are entering cold because it looks fun, it is more crowded than it first appears.

4. History

Verdict: High-audience niche with heavier incumbent pressure.

History is one of those niches that looks evergreen, respectable, and seemingly endless. All of that is true. It is also more crowded than many new creators realize.

What stood out:

  • Median views per day were 2,755.6.
  • Small-channel share was 33%.
  • The median sampled channel size was about 281,500 subscribers.

That suggests a category where there is still demand, but the current winners often already have authority, deeper archives, or documentary-level packaging. Channels and media brands like National Geographic and History Hit reinforce that pressure.

History is still viable. It is just not the kind of niche where generic narration over stock visuals is likely to cut through.

5. True Crime

Verdict: Crowded, but still more open than the top two traps.

True crime landed in a different category for me. It is crowded, but not yet fully sealed.

What stood out:

  • Median views per day were 3,512.2.
  • Small-channel share was 42%.
  • The median sampled channel size was about 175,000 subscribers.

That is still competitive. Larger players like 48 Hours absorb a lot of attention. But unlike business or AI News, the data still shows smaller publishers surfacing with some regularity. That makes true crime less “do not touch” and more “do not enter casually.”

The Two Crowded Niches I Would Avoid First

If I were advising a new faceless creator to avoid the hardest first bets, it would be these two:

  1. Business
  2. AI News

They have the worst mix of temptation and resistance. Both are full of attention, and both currently look crowded enough that a new creator can spend a long time confusing market size with personal opportunity.

What to Do Instead

The smarter move is not just “pick a smaller niche.” It is to pick a niche where current demand and smaller-channel access still overlap.

That is why the better starting categories earlier today were things like space and mythology. If you want the upside view instead of the caution list, the ranking on best faceless YouTube niches is the right companion read.

And once you choose a lane, the format and workflow matter almost as much as the niche. That is where Overview becomes relevant: the best niches are the ones you can actually publish into consistently, not just admire from the outside.

What This Means for EchoEtch Users

The practical takeaway is simple: do not confuse high audience energy with a good first niche.

Some niches are crowded because they are genuinely attractive. That is exactly why they become dangerous for new creators. If the current winners are large, fast, well-packaged, and already trusted, the niche may require far more editorial strength and volume than it seems.

That also changes the economics. A crowded niche often demands more testing, better packaging, and more output before the channel starts to move. That is one reason the cost side of Pricing matters differently in a crowded category than in a more open one.

Methodology

This ranking is based on a live public-data pull completed on April 6, 2026 using the YouTube Data API. We sampled recent public videos published since October 1, 2025 across multiple query variants for:

  • AI News
  • Business
  • True Crime
  • History
  • Gaming Lore
  • Science
  • Space
  • Mythology
  • Philosophy

We used:

For each niche, we compared:

  • median views per day since publish
  • share of sampled videos from channels under 100,000 subscribers
  • median sampled channel size
  • concentration of current winners

This was not a pure demand ranking. It was a crowding read. In other words, the point was not just to find what people are watching, but to find where current attention appears to be most captured by already-large channels.

The Business and AI News categories stood out clearly on that basis, which is why they separated from the rest of the field.
